What is prostate cancer?

Prostate cancer is one of the most common malignancies.

In a large percentage of clinical cases, the disease progresses slowly and does not extend beyond the prostate gland, i.e. does not metastasize, therefore, does not cause serious damage to the body. However sometimes the disease is very aggressive and spreads quickly.

If diagnosed at an early stage, the patient has a high chance of recovery. Unfortunately, at an early stage, it is quite possible that prostate gland cancer is asymptomatic, and the person does not even know that he has cancer.

As the disease progresses the following symptoms appear:

  • Problems with urination;
  • Blood in the urine;
  • Blood in semen;
  • Bone pain;
  • Unreasonable, unexplained weight loss;
  • Erectile dysfunction.

Who should get a genetic test?

Genetic analysis for prostate cancer is provided in 2 groups:

  • The first group includes men with prostate cancer, although the disease is localized in this organ and has not spread / metastasized to other parts of the body. In addition, the family members of these men developed breast, colon, ovarian, pancreatic, or prostate cancer;
  • The second group includes men who have prostate cancer, although the disease has also metastasized in the body.

Why is genetic research important?

Genetic analysis is recommended to make sure that the person at risk and their family members are aware of any possible scenarios, such as whether the organism may be a carrier of the prostate gland cancer gene or what methods can be used to treat the disease.

The test result determines:

  • Screening frequency. If you do not have prostate cancer but have been diagnosed with a genetic mutation (which increases the risk of developing the disease), your doctor will start monitoring your health at an early age and will therefore be able to respond at an early stage;
  • For diagnostics. Oncologists explain that in men who have developed a genetic mutation of prostate cancer, the disease progresses in an aggressive form. Therefore, this information will help the doctor choose the main methods of treatment in a timely manner;
  • A course of treatment. Men with specific genetic
