Itchy Ears

What Causes Itchy Ears?

The ear is a very sensitive organ and you may experience itching even without any specific reason. However, allergies, infections, or earwax buildup can contribute to this symptom.

The ear contains many sensitive nerve fibers, so it is not surprising that this area of the body is sensitive.

Possible causes include:

  • Dry skin around the ear;
  • Psoriasis;
  • Atopic dermatitis;
  • Rashes;
  • Wax buildup;
  • Ear canal dermatitis;
  • Hearing aids;
  • Outer ear infection;
  • Fungal ear infection;
  • Middle ear infection.

Along with itchy ears, you may also experience other symptoms, including:

  • Itchy throat;
  • Rashes;
  • Redness of the skin;
  • Ringing in the ears;
  • A feeling as if your ear is blocked.

In the case of an infection, the following symptoms accompany an itchy ear:

  • Fever;
  • Swelling in the ear;
  • Pain;
  • Discharge from the ear, such as pus;
  • You cannot hear sound normally in your ear.
