Pain in groin

Pain in groin

Causes.

The cause of pain in the groin can be both trauma and any other disease - this symptom is characteristic of many pathologies. If this discomfort is familiar to you, it is necessary to consult a doctor and determine the cause.

The degree of pain is different and depends on the cause. You may complain of a sharp, burning pain or dull discomfort, or the symptom may worsen with specific movement.

Groin pain is a common symptom, affecting one out of every 10 people in the US (according to statistics from sports medicine clinics) and is seen in all age groups, especially athletes.

There are many muscles, nerves, tendons and other structures in/around the groin area, therefore it is necessary to diagnose the cause of the pain. The pain may originate directly in the groin or it is quite possible that the discomfort originates in another area of the body and is transmitted to the groin.

Groin pain is both primary and secondary. The cause of primary pain is trauma or disease, while secondary pain develops as a result of surgery and is an example of a complication of surgical intervention.

Groin pain can be caused by:

  • Sports or movement-related injury;
  • Hernia;
  • Hip diseases;
  • Diseases of the nervous system;
  • Urological conditions;
  • Gynecological pathologies;
  • Gastrointestinal disorders.
