Even 60 years ago, French scientists claimed that people with large waists were a risk group for cardiovascular diseases. According to them, the risk of cardiovascular pathologies was much lower in people whose weight was distributed on the hips, but whose fat content in the waist area was normal.

Even after several decades, this topic is still relevant and today it has the name of abdominal obesity.

Abdominal obesity (when excess fat accumulates in the waist area) makes a person's body shape resemble an apple - this type of figure is more common in men. As a rule, women tend to accumulate fat around the hips, and this type of body takes on a pear-shaped appearance.

A person may not be overweight, but have fat in the waist area, i.e., a large waist - even in this case (although the body mass index is not considered fat), the person is at risk of health.

Keep in mind, any extra kilos significantly increases the risk of both psychological and physical health problems, and belly fat is especially dangerous. Imagine a mass of fat surrounding the liver and other organs; Visceral fat (associated with internal organs) is metabolically active and contributes to the development of such pathological processes as: bad cholesterol, triglycerides, high blood pressure, high sugar levels and others.
