Nystagmus - if you complain of involuntary movement of the eyeball

What is nystagmus?

During the diagnosis of nystagmus, a person cannot control eye movements, for example, the eyeball moves quickly and involuntarily, rhythmically, uncontrollably moves to the side or up or down, maybe even in a circle.

In some clinical cases, it is genetic, but sometimes it appears in the background of another disease.

The pathology can be managed with glasses, contact lenses - rarely, although surgical intervention may be necessary.

Due to the involuntary movement of the eyeball, the risk of vision problems increases. Due to nystagmus, a person may have difficulty maintaining balance, cannot adequately perceive depth or distance, etc.

No one is immune from nystagmus - both children and adults are diagnosed with it.

Directly nystagmus is not dangerous, although it is sometimes associated with such dangerous pathologies as stroke, brain tumor, head trauma, inflammatory diseases.

Symptoms of nystagmus are:

  • Involuntary eye movement;
  • Blurred vision or tremors;
  • Balance problem;
  • Dizziness;
  • Increased sensitivity to light;
  • Vision problem at night.
