What causes red eyes?
Eye redness is a common complaint. Discomfort may spread to both eyes. In a large percentage of clinical cases, it appears against the background of irritation or infection.
Possible causes are:
- Allergy;
- Inflammation of the eyelid;
- Cyst on the eyelid;
- Complications that may occur after eye surgery;
- Herpes;
- Corneal ulcer;
- Dry eyes;
- Foreign body in the eye;
- Glaucoma;
- Allergic rhinitis;
- Eye injury;
- Iritis
- Inflammation of the cornea;
- Conjunctivitis;
- Uveitis and others.
Call 911 in the following situations:
- Suddenly notice changes related to vision;
- Vision problem is accompanied by severe headache, eye pain, fever or increased sensitivity to light, nausea, vomiting;
- The eye is red due to a foreign body or liquid;
- You see circles around the light;
- As if something bothers you in the eye, feeling of a foreign body;
- Swelling around the eyes;
- You have difficulty opening your eyes.
Occasionally, rarely, eye redness is not dangerous.
Consult a doctor if the condition does not improve even after a few days.
