Spinal cord hernia

Spinal cord hernia

What is a spinal hernia?

A spinal hernia is an injury to the connective tissue between the vertebrae, which causes excessive stretching, pressure on the spinal cord. As a result, the patient complains of back pain, hypersensitivity in various parts of the body.

Magnetic resonance imaging is essential for accurate diagnosis.

Depending on the clinical case, the course of treatment may include medication or surgery.

The underlying cause

Possible causes of a spinal hernia are:

  •  Trauma, multiple injuries;
  •  Excess weight;
  •  The patient's older age;
  •  Spinal diseases (eg, scoliosis, kyphosis, osteochondrosis);
  •  Improper physical activity, excessive overload of the body;
  •  Weight lifting and unhealthy lifestyle;
  •  Genetic predisposition.

Prevention

Preventive measures are not always possible, although certain methods can really reduce the risk of developing pathology.

Recommended:

  •  Avoid lifting heavy objects or redistributing the load so that your back or hips are not overloaded;
  •  Excess weight is a serious challenge for the spine, therefore, in case of obesity, you must lose weight;
  •  Choose a good posture when walking, standing, sitting or lying down;
  •  Avoid high-heeled shoes as much as possible;
  •  Quit smoking;
  •  Eat healthy;
