Varicose veins are enlarged, swollen veins.
Any superficial vein can become varicose, but in a large percentage of clinical cases, the lower extremities are damaged, because the pressure increases when walking or standing.
In this condition the person has a kind of spider-like (venous spiders), dark purple or blue in color, with convex and twisted veins.
With visual symptoms, the patient is more likely to complain of the following: a feeling of heaviness in the lower extremities, fatigue, burning sensation in the legs, pulsation and muscle cramps, increased pain from prolonged sitting or standing, discoloration of the skin around the varicose veins, and itching.
Diagnosis
Duplex scanning of the veins is provided for diagnosis.
Treatment
Treatment, for the most part, involves less invasive procedures in a large percentage of clinical cases and is performed on an outpatient basis. If drug therapy is not effective, laser ablation, sclerotherapy, outpatient phlebectomy, and others may be prescribed.
