Eyebrow pain

Eyebrow pain

What causes eyebrow pain?

Pain around or behind the eyebrows can be due to many different causes, including headaches, infections, or conditions affecting the nerves in the face.

In this article, we look at some possible causes of eyebrow pain, as well as the treatment options for each.

Trigeminal neuralgia

Trigeminal neuralgia is a condition that causes sharp, intense pain in areas of the face.

Trigeminal neuralgia is a chronic and painful condition that damages the trigeminal nerve. Even mild irritation of the face during trigeminal neuralgia can cause severe pain.

It is true that at the initial stage it is manifested by a mild and short-lived attack, but the pathology progresses and is characterized by episodes of long, severe pain over time.

Some people with this condition may experience a stabbing pain or pain that feels like an electric shock. Others may have a constant aching or burning sensation in the face.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is an eye disease that damages the optic nerve. This pathology is one of the most common causes of blindness.

Glaucoma is caused by abnormally high pressure inside the eye. Due to the disease the patient complains of severe pain around the eyebrows and eyes.

Migraine

Migraine is a chronic recurrent neurological disease manifested by pulsating, explosive, acute pain on one or both sides of the head.

Often, headaches are accompanied by nausea, vomiting, hypersensitivity to sound and light.

Patients complain of pain in the eyebrows, eyes and scalp during a migraine attack.

Cluster headache

It is possible that a cluster headache may be the cause of eyebrow pain.

This is a condition that is manifested by severe headaches.

A cluster headache is a severe headache that can reoccur between one and eight times a day and last from 15 minutes to 3 hours each time.

It should be noted that with cluster headaches due to severe pain, the patient may even wake up at night. The condition is in remission, when the pain disappears without a trace and does not appear for several months, and sometimes years.

During cluster headaches, patients complain of tingling, sharp pain around the eyebrow, around the eyes or scalp.

Tension headache

According to the American Migraine Foundation, tension headaches are the most common type of headache.

During this type of headache, the patient complains of pain that extends to the eye, eyebrows and scalp.

Symptoms of a tension headache include mild-to-moderate pain on both sides of the head, headaches like holding, pressing or stretching.

Shingles

You may feel pain in the eyebrows due to dampness.

Thirst is a viral infection that affects the nerve.

Sinusitis

Sinusitis is the inflammation of the nasal cavities. Moreover, it can be both acute and chronic.

During sinusitis, the patient complains of pain in the eyebrows, nose, cheeks and cheeks.

Giant cell arteritis

Giant cell arteritis, or temporal arteritis, is a condition affecting the blood vessels along the side of the head.

The disease most often damages the blood vessels in the head, especially in the groin.

Inflammation of these blood vessels can cause pain in the face and other symptoms around the head and neck, such as: pain in the jaw, double vision or temporary loss of vision, a fever, tenderness on the scalp, severe headaches and etc.
