Sciatica is a common complaint and causes serious discomfort to the patient.
Sciatica is a nerve pain caused by trauma, inflammation, or irritation of the sciatic nerve.
In acute clinical cases, it is recommended to consult a doctor - note that severe cases can only be managed with surgery.
The following methods can help relieve sciatica:
- Rest for a while;
- Cat-cow pose is effective (search for Cat-cow exercise on the Internet);
- Try the Pilates bridge pose;
- Walk slowly and for short distances, controlling your breathing;
- During sciatic nerve pain, running and other types of activity/physical exertion that will aggravate the symptom are not allowed;
- Place ice wrapped in a cloth on the painful area for several minutes. If ice doesn't relieve the discomfort, try a hot tub (commonly known as a grelka);
- Water has a positive effect on the functioning of the nervous system, and if possible, try swimming;
- Acupuncture. This is a traditional Chinese medicine method in which a practitioner inserts very small, thin needles into the skin;
- Massage the painful area;
- Tell the pharmacist at the pharmacy about your symptoms and they will prescribe the appropriate painkiller;
- In case of severe and chronic pain, go to the clinic for a steroid injection.
