What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?
Traditional Chinese Medicine is a comprehensive medical system that has been around for over 2,000 years - used to diagnose, treat and prevent disease.
It is based on the belief in Yin and Yang - opposing energies (for example, earth and heaven, winter and summer, happiness and sadness); when Yin and Yang are in balance, the body is relaxed and the person is energetic.
Practitioners believe that the human body contains a life force/energy called Chi. In order for Yin and Yang to be balanced, Chi must flow freely.
According to the teachings of Traditional Chinese Medicine, if there is too much or too little Chi in the body's energy system, a diagnosis is made of a meridian, or when the flow of Chi is blocked, disease occurs.
The 3 main causes of Yin and Yang imbalance are:
- Internal or environmental factors;
- Internal emotions;
- Lifestyle.
Traditional Chinese medicine stimulates the body's self-healing mechanisms.
Traditional Chinese medicine uses medicinal herbs, nutrients, Chinese massage, a special exercise program, meditation, and acupuncture.
Treatments are prescribed to alleviate or treat various conditions or symptoms.
