Knee noise

Knee noise

Knee popping.

This is a common condition and is not dangerous. However, you should suspect osteoarthritis or another type of arthritis when the knee popping sensation is accompanied by pain or other symptoms.

Knee popping or cracking may be noticed when bending forward, climbing stairs, or stretching the limb.

This symptom resembles the following types of sounds:

  • cracking
  • popping
  • clicking
  • grating
  • grinding

This symptom alone (noise when moving the limb) is not dangerous and you can rest assured that nothing is wrong with the knee.

However, you should consult a doctor if the knee popping is accompanied by the following symptoms:

  • Swelling;
  • Pain;
  • Stiffness;
  • Limited mobility;
  • Muscle weakness;
  • Difficulty maintaining balance.
