Uremia - When the blood is filled with waste products

Uremia - When the blood is filled with waste products

What is uremia?

In untreated kidney failure, waste products accumulate in the blood - in medical terms, this process is called uremia. In such clinical cases, dialysis and kidney transplantation are provided. Without treatment, uremia is fatal.

Uremia is a dangerous pathology in which the kidneys no longer function properly and have difficulty filtering waste products from the blood. As a result, the blood is actually filled with excess products, and the waste mass is so large that it causes discomfort to the patient and causes symptoms.

When the kidneys are functioning properly, they filter waste products and remove excess fluid from the blood through urine.

The first symptoms of uremia are nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. At first, the patient feels nauseous upon waking or at the smell of food. Some people lose their appetite when eating.

Other symptoms include:

• Unexplained weight loss;
• Cognitive decline;
• Severe fatigue;
• Shortness of breath;
• Metallic taste in the mouth;
• Muscle spasms;
• Itching;
• Coma;
• Seizures;
• Chest pain;
• Uremic odor, etc.
