Body Odor

Body Odor

What Causes Body Odor?

Body odor is caused by a combination of sweat and bacteria on the skin. Sweat itself does not cause odor, but rather bacteria that come into contact with the sweat.

The amount of sweat does not affect odor, and as mentioned earlier, bacteria are the cause - this is why some people do not have a specific odor even when sweating heavily, while others smell unpleasant even with a single drop of sweat.

Men are more likely to have body odor.

Body odor can be affected by the following factors:

• Diet;
• Hormones;
• Medication;
• Exercise;
• Stress;
• Anxiety;
• Hot weather;
• Being overweight;
• Genetics.

The following diseases or conditions can change a person's usual body odor:

• Diabetes;
• Menopause;
• Overactive thyroid gland;
• Liver disease;
• Kidney disease;
• Infectious disease.
