Traumatic breast injury - what to do if you hit your breast with something?

When to see a doctor?

A breast injury means that the breast tissue has been damaged. As a rule, trauma to the breast area causes mild side effects and rarely causes serious or acute symptoms.

The first symptom is pain - it is quite possible that bruising may also form, which is often a cause of discomfort. Sometimes the trauma causes bleeding or swelling.

In case of heavy bleeding, the following signs will appear:

• Feeling of fainting;
• Low blood pressure;
• Rapid heartbeat;
• Shock due to blood loss.

All of these symptoms are a prerequisite for life-threatening complications and require urgent medical intervention - in such cases, surgery is necessary, as this is the only way to stop the bleeding.

Note that you should also consult a doctor in the following cases, namely:

• Breast pain is getting worse;
• The texture of the skin around the breast has changed;
• Bleeding or discharge from the nipple;
• Infection;
• Breast swelling.
