Second degree burns - how to treat them at home and what symptoms should you consult a doctor?

Treatment at home.

Second degree burns are the most common and are categorized as mild or moderate. Second degree burns are most often received on the face and limbs.

Home treatment is allowed only when you have small (less than 7 centimeters in diameter) and mild burns.

At home, it is recommended to:

  • Wash the burned area with cool water. Try to keep the burned area under cool running water for at least 5 minutes. later dry lightly with a clean towel;
  • Wrap the burned area with a bandage or cloth (do not squeeze);
  • Do not touch the burned skin and do not wear such clothes that may cause friction;
  • Replace the bandage with a new one at least once a day;
  • Buy a painkiller (in case of pain) or burn cream or lotion at the pharmacy.

Self-medication is not allowed and you should immediately consult a doctor in case of the following symptoms:

  • Burns cover a large area of the body (larger than 7 centimeters in volume);
  • Due to burns, it is difficult for you to use a specific part of your body;
  • Signs of infection were detected.

No matter how minor the burn, see a doctor right away if the patient is a child under 5, a person over 70, or anyone of any age with a weakened immune system.
