What is cardiac tamponade?
This is a condition where a large amount of fluid accumulates around the heart, making it difficult for the organ to pump enough blood. Against the background of fluid pressure, the ability of the heart to function properly is disturbed.
Cardiac tamponade is an emergency disease - the patient should be immediately admitted to the emergency department, it is necessary to pump the fluid.
Basically, it appears against the background of cancer, infection, trauma, various diseases.
No one is immune from cardiac tamponade, it occurs at any age. According to statistics, two out of every 10,000 people develop cardiac tamponade as a result of another disease.
During the rapid course, the patient has the following symptoms:
- Piercing pain in the chest;
- Pain may spread to the arm, back, neck, arms;
- Pain may be aggravated by deep breathing, coughing;
- Difficulty breathing;
- Heart failure, dizziness;
- Paleness of the skin, bluing;
- Accelerated heartbeat;
- Accelerated pulse;
- The patient is behaving unusually.
In the slow progression of the disease, the following symptoms appear:
- Shortness of breath;
- Swelling of the abdomen or legs;
- Fatigue;
- Discomfort in the chest area.
Causes of cardiac tamponade are:
- Trauma;
- Penetrating wound;
- Heart attack;
- Cancer;
- Rupture of the aorta;
- Tuberculosis;
- Inflammation or infection of the pericardium;
- Lupus;
- Rheumatoid arthritis;
- Scleroderma;
- Heart cancer;
- Heart or kidney failure.
