What is Dressler syndrome?
Dressler's syndrome is an inflammation of the lining of the heart. It is the immune system's response to damaged heart tissue or pericardium. The cause of the injury may be a heart attack, traumatic injury or surgery.
Symptoms of Dressler syndrome usually appear weeks or months after a heart attack, chest trauma, or surgery.
Symptoms:
- Chest pain;
- Temperature
Remember, chest pain of any intensity is very serious! Go to the emergency department immediately if you have sudden or persistent chest pain. It is quite possible that this symptom is an indication of a heart attack or other serious disorder.
According to experts, Dressler's syndrome is formed against the background of the reaction of the immune system, in particular, the body sends immune cells and antibodies to restore the damaged tissue, although sometimes this reaction gives negative results and instead of helping, it causes an inflammatory process in the pericardium.
The immune system reaction that causes Dressler's syndrome may also lead to the formation of a pleural effusion (a collection of fluid in the lining of the lung).
Rarely, however, in some clinical cases, Dressler's syndrome may lead to serious complications such as cardiac tamponade and constrictive pericarditis.
