Decreased libido

Decreased libido

What causes low libido?

The condition may be temporary or long-term.

You have decreased libido if you notice that the frequency or intensity of intimate intercourse has decreased. Libido is complex, influenced by biological, psychological and environmental factors.

Biologically, the following hormones take care of libido regulation:

  • Testosterone;
  • Estrogen;
  • Also neurotransmitters (dopamine, oxytocin).

Keep in mind, there is no normal or ideal libido in nature, as it varies from person to person, and the desire for intimacy can be expected to change over time. Some people have intimacy every day, some once a year or not at all, so there is no specific golden rule in this matter. However, if this topic worries you and you have a disagreement with your partner due to the decrease in libido, consult a specialist.

Some diseases or life factors are often the cause of decreased libido, for example, risk factors are:

  • Problems in the relationship;
  • Hormonal imbalance;
  • Medical conditions;
  • Mental disorders;
  • Some medications (a kind of side effect);
  • Stress;
  • Increasing age.

Typical symptoms are:

  • Lose interest in any type of intimate relationship;
  • Decreased your sexual fantasies;
  • You are worried and stressed due to decreased libido.
