When does vomiting require emergency department treatment?

Gastrointestinal flu and vomiting are familiar to almost every person, however, sometimes the symptom cannot be treated at home and it becomes necessary to hospitalize the patient.

It is necessary to call an emergency room if you are not able to keep food and liquid in the body (due to vomiting or diarrhea, more often than necessary and in large quantities), the symptoms have worsened or the following signs have appeared:

  • Bleeding;
  • Mild confusion;
  • Dizziness;
  • Chest pain;
  • Shortness of breath;
  • Weakness;
  • Numbness;
  • Relaxation.

During a mild course, vomiting can be managed at home with the following methods:

  • Drink water;
  • Avoid solid food;
  • Take a break.

Keep in mind that if the condition does not improve, the symptom is probably due to another pathology and it is necessary to consult a doctor.

You need medical help if the vomiting episode is frequent and there are signs of dehydration.
