Have you noticed that the pain is more intense at night?
Some scientific works also confirm that in a large percentage of clinical cases, chronic pain worsens at night.
And what is the reason for this anyway? The main reason is hormones - the level of anti-inflammatory hormone production is at a minimum at night. However, pain is somewhat subject to the body's circadian rhythm.
Of course, there is no good time for chronic pain, but it is especially problematic at night, because it causes insomnia, and lack of sleep becomes a trigger for many symptoms and pathologies. Chronic pain patients report that they also suffer from insomnia or some form of sleep disorder.
What is chronic pain?
Pain is chronic if it has been present for at least 2 or 3 months and the symptom has not gone away despite treatment of the underlying injury or disease.
You may complain of chronic pain in your joints or muscles, sometimes in one specific area of your body, such as your back or neck.
Statistically, 1 in 5 adults (US) has chronic pain.
