Inflammation of skin folds

Inflammation of skin folds

What is intertrigo?

Intertrigo (soreness) is an inflammation of the folds of the skin, which develops due to the friction of the skin surfaces in contact with each other - the inflammatory skin disease is characterized by activation in conditions of heat and humidity. Sweat, fat contribute to the symptoms.

Intertrigo may become a focus of infection. In a large percentage of clinical cases, the damaged area of the skin is the reason for the multiplication/exacerbation of bacteria or fungi.

Numbness is especially common in the following areas of the body:

  • neck;
  • armpit;
  • the lower chest or the space between the breasts;
  • abdominal section;
  • groin;
  • inner thigh;
  • space between fingers.

No one is immune to it, it occurs at any age, but intertrigo (discomfort) is more common in babies due to diapers and saliva. In addition, the risk group of intertrigo includes people with weak immunity and various diseases. The risk of developing a pathological process increases if there is overweight or diabetes in the anamnesis.

Intertrigo is a common disease - this skin pathology is especially common in summer, in a hot and humid environment.

The following symptoms are characteristic of inflammation of the skin folds at the initial stage:

  • Red or reddish-brown rash on the skin's contact surfaces;
  • Itching, burning sensation in the affected area;
  • Pain and discomfort in the affected area.
  • Inflammation of the infected skin folds is manifested by these symptoms:
  • Strong smell in the affected area;
  • Purulent rash;
  • The rash on the skin is raised.

You should consult a doctor as soon as symptoms of infection appear, because untreated infection can lead to serious complications.

Note that intertrigo is not contagious, that is, it cannot be passed from one person to another.
