What is enteritis?
Enteritis is inflammation of the small intestine. In some clinical cases, the inflammation involves the stomach and colon.
There are several types of enteritis, namely:
- Viral
- Bacterial
- Medicinal
- Radiation
- Alcoholic
- Ongoing inflammatory diseases.
Viral enteritis is cured in a few days without a specific course of treatment. If the symptoms do not improve and the patient's general condition does not improve in 3 or 4 days, you probably have bacterial enteritis and should consult a doctor.
Symptoms begin within hours or days of infection.
The following signs are characteristic:
- Diarrhea;
- Nausea and vomiting;
- Loss of appetite;
- Abdominal cramps, spasms and pain;
- Pain, bleeding, or mucus-like discharge from the rectum;
- Temperature
Infectious enteritis
Bacterial enteritis, the most common form, is caused by food poisoning.
The infection enters the body through water and food contaminated with bacteria.
The risk of infection increases due to poor personal hygiene, improper food handling.
Food poisoning is most often caused by the following products:
- Raw meat;
- Unpasteurized milk;
- Uncooked products.
Enteritis can be contracted through close contact with an infected person or animal, although such cases are rare.
