When to consult a doctor?
Thirst is normal after spicy food, physical activity or high temperature, but sometimes this sensation does not go away even after drinking water.
Possible causes are:
- Salty or spicy food;
- Morbidity;
- Strong intensity training;
- Diarrhea;
- Vomiting;
- Burns;
- Blood loss;
- Some medications (side effects).
If you suffer from this discomfort chronically or you constantly complain of feeling thirsty, you are probably dealing with a health problem.
It may be a sign of the following diseases:
- Dehydration;
- Diabetes mellitus;
- Diabetes insipidus;
- Heart, liver or kidney failure;
- Sepsis.
A strong feeling of thirst is quite possible to turn into hyperhydration (excess water content in the body), because there is a big risk of taking more fluids than recommended.
Be sure to consult your doctor if you constantly want to drink fluids and the feeling of thirst does not go away despite drinking water.
Consult a doctor in case of the following symptoms:
- It doesn't matter how much liquid you drank, you still feel thirsty;
- You also complain of blurred vision, a strong feeling of hunger;
- The wound does not heal;
- Fatigue;
- Frequent urination (an excessively large amount of urine was released from the body).
