Why does an abscess appear, what should you know about the cause?
An abscess is a confined collection of pus that can appear anywhere on the body.
There are several types of abscesses.
As a rule, in a large percentage of clinical cases, the underlying cause is a bacterial infection - the method of treatment of the pathology is surgical drainage of pus.
During an infection, the body's immune system switches to defense mode. Leukocytes move to the infected area and collect and unite with the damaged tissue. This pile turns into inflammation, which eventually forms a pocket. As a result, the pocket is filled with pus, that is, an abscess is formed.
Pus consists of live or dead leukocytes, fluid, dead tissue, and microbes.
In the visually affected area, you may notice redness, swelling, and a bump on the surface with yellow or white pus. It is expected that the patient will suffer from pain, feel warmth when touching the area of the abscess, develop a fever.
