Pulmonology

Pulmonology

Pulmonology cares for all types of lung diseases using the most effective multidisciplinary approach. It offers diagnosis and individualized treatment plans for lung and breathing conditions such as:

  • Sleep-related breathing disorders (apnea, hypopnea)
  • Allergic or infectious pulmonary diseases (as asthma, pneumonia, bronchitis)
  • Acute respiratory distress syndrome
  • Lung embolism
  • Cystic fibrosis, sarcoidosis or other systemic diseases, which affect respiratory system
  • Chronic pulmonary obstructive disease COPD (emphysema, chronic bronchitis)
  • Pulmonary vascular disease (e.g. pulmonary hypertension)
  • Interstitial lung diseases (as asbestosis, silicosis, radiation or chemotherapy induces, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis)
  • Benign and malignant tumor of respiratory system.

Special pulmonary procedures and diagnostic tests that are used in pulmonology:

  • Bronchoscopy
  • Spirometry/Flow-Volume Loop – measures the rate of air flow and estimates lung size
  • Lung Diffusing Capacity Test -assesses how well oxygen gets into the blood from the air you breathe.
  • Plethysmography  - measures how much air lungs can hold
  • Measurement of respiratory muscle strength
  • Arterial blood gases
  • Overnight oximetry (measures oxygen levels in blood)
  • Exercise oximetry
