What is dysania?
Dysania is a condition when a person falls asleep too much in the morning and finds it difficult to get out of bed.
It usually manifests itself when a person has to go to school, university or work.
If you have dysania, it doesn’t mean you’re lazy, doesn't hide from the imposed duty. This means you simply can’t get out of bed for about 1 to 2 hours after you wake up.
Doctors don’t recognize it as a medical condition.
Simply put, a person develops a pathological desire to sleep in bed for no objective reason.
When you can’t get going in the morning every day, it can impact every aspect of your life. Your family, boss, co-workers, and friends might not understand why you can’t function.
If you have dysania, it doesn’t mean you’re lazy.
Dysania can be a symptom of many medical conditions. Some common ones are:
- Depression
- Chronic fatigue syndrome
- Sleep apnea
- Anemia
- Sleep disorders
- Restless legs syndrome
- Thyroid disorders
- Heart disease
- Fibromyalgia and etc.
As you can see, dysania can be a symptom of both physical and mental health problems, and if you complain of this feeling chronically, be sure to consult a doctor. It is quite possible that antidepressants are also the cause of this discomfort.
Dysania isn’t a disease. It’s a serious symptom of an underlying condition. To treat it, you need to find and address the root cause or causes.
