Psychogenic Impotence

Psychogenic Impotence

What is psychogenic impotence?

This diagnosis means that a man is unable to achieve an erection due to psychological factors.

According to statistics, approximately 40% of erectile dysfunction is due to psychogenic causes.

Erectile dysfunction can occur in men of any age, although psychogenic impotence is more common in young men.

The following symptoms are characteristic:

  • You have difficulty getting an erection;
  • You lose your erection before the end of sex;
  • Premature or delayed ejaculation;
  • You are interested in intimate intercourse, but you are unable to.

The following psychological conditions may cause impotence:

  • Stress;
  • Anxiety;
  • Depression;
  • Conflict situations in personal relationships;
  • Feelings of guilt;
  • Low self-esteem;
  • Cultural or religious influences;
  • Emotional trauma.

If the cause of erectile dysfunction is both physiological and psychological, your doctor will prescribe medication, encourage lifestyle changes, and recommend psychotherapy.
