Itchy feet

Itchy feet

What causes itchy feet?

Itchy feet are a common complaint and can be caused by a number of conditions/circumstances.

If they occur infrequently and resolve on their own, there is nothing to worry about. However, you should see a doctor if your itchy feet are chronic, accompanied by other symptoms, and home remedies have not been effective and your condition is not improving.

The first recommendation for itching is to avoid scratching (and if possible, avoid scratching at all) the affected area, as scratching increases the risk of infection.

The most common causes of itchy feet are:

  • Peripheral neuropathy;
  • Dry skin;
  • Psoriasis;
  • Eczema;
  • Athlete's foot;
  • Allergic reaction;
  • Parasitic infection;
  • Ringworm;
  • Diabetes;
  • Burns.
