What is Lentigo?
Lentigo is a skin condition that some people call liver spots. It is a flat spot that is darker than the natural color of the skin.
Lentigo spots do not itch, are not painful and are not dangerous - the only discomfort that a person may experience is the visual side. That is why removing lentigo is a cosmetic choice, not a medical one. Effective cosmetic methods have been introduced to remove lentigo.
This type of spot is common in the elderly, as many people notice it as they age.
Lentigo usually appears on areas of the body that are easily exposed to sunlight, such as the face, back, hands. The spot may appear over time or suddenly.
No one is immune to lentigo, it can occur at any age and gender. Risk factors include:
- Fair skin;
- You spend a lot of time in the sun;
- You have a sunburn;
- You are a solarium enthusiast;
- You have a history of phototherapy or radiation therapy.
