Cardiovascular Fitness

What is cardiovascular fitness?

Your cardiovascular fitness level has a significant impact on your health and is just as important as popular risk factors, such as whether you smoke, have high blood pressure, or have a history of high cholesterol.

A cardiovascular fitness test measures how efficiently your body delivers oxygen to your muscles and organs during prolonged physical activity.

The higher your cardiovascular fitness score, the lower your risk of developing serious health conditions.

During this test, you will walk on a treadmill while your doctor monitors your heart rate and measures how well your heart is working during exercise. During the test, your doctor will check your heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing.

Your doctor may advise you to avoid exercise if you have been diagnosed with a heart condition or irregular heart rhythm.
