Chest muscle strain

Chest muscle strain

When a muscle in the chest is strained, you feel sharp pain when moving or breathing.

In a large percentage of clinical cases, it is caused by a collision/impact injury or overexertion, overloading the body. The condition improves with rest, painkillers, and physiotherapy.

Possible causes of chest wall strain are:

  • Sports injury;
  • Lifting heavy objects;
  • Severe coughing;
  • Falling;
  • Chronic poor posture;
  • Twisting your torso unnaturally;
  • Holding your arms above your head for a long time or doing this type of exercise incorrectly.

Muscle strain causes pain, muscle spasm, and bruising.

The following symptoms are characteristic:

  • Pain increases with chest movement;
  • Pain worsens when taking a deep breath, sneezing, or coughing;
  • Pain in the upper back.
