Have you noticed a wet spot on your pillow in the morning?
We produce saliva regularly, even when we are asleep. As a rule, in a large percentage of clinical cases, drooling in sleep is normal.
The causes of drooling in sleep are:
• Sleeping position (common in people who sleep on their side and stomach);
• Colds, infections, allergies;
• Gastroesophageal reflux disease;
• Obstructive sleep apnea;
• Teeth grinding;
• Side effects of certain medications;
• Neurodegenerative disease.
As already mentioned, drooling in sleep is normal, however, if you think that the amount of saliva is noticeable or this symptom is accompanied by another unusual type of discomfort, be sure to consult a doctor.
