What is an endo belly?
If your severe abdominal bloating is not caused by pregnancy, it may be due to endometriosis. Medication and dietary changes, as prescribed by your doctor, can help relieve the symptoms.
According to statistics, more than 11% of Americans between the ages of 15 and 44 suffer from the effects of endometriosis. Endometriosis causes pain, infertility, heavy menstrual bleeding, and gastrointestinal symptoms (diarrhea, nausea, constipation, bloating).
The main symptom of endo belly is severe bloating, especially before or during menstruation. Bloating means that the abdomen is filled with gas and, as a result, visually increases in size.
Endo belly may cause discomfort, pain, and a feeling of pressure in the abdomen and back. The lower abdomen is swollen for days, weeks, or just a few hours. Many people with endo say that it feels like they are pregnant.
It is possible that the cause is not endometriosis at all, and you may be experiencing bloating due to a completely different disease or condition.
You should definitely see a doctor to determine the cause of your bloating if you experience any of the following symptoms:
- You are bloated frequently;
- The bloating lasts for several days;
- It is accompanied by pain.
