Muscle weakness

Muscle weakness

What is muscle weakness?

This diagnosis means that the muscle is not as strong as it should be physiologically. This symptom is due to many reasons and is mostly temporary and considered normal. However, in some clinical cases, it is a sign of a serious illness and requires timely medical intervention.

With muscle weakness, you may complain of:

  • Loss of strength;
  • Difficulty performing ordinary and seemingly insignificant tasks;
  • Pain when using the affected muscle;
  • Problems with balance and coordination when standing or walking;
  • Tremors.

The main causes of muscle weakness are:

  • Structural effects;
  • Cellular effects;
  • Diseases and injuries of the nervous system;
  • Chronic diseases.

Treatment of muscle weakness depends on the cause and the patient's health history.

Treatment includes:

  • Physiotherapy;
  • Nutritional support;
  • Immobilization, rest;
  • Surgery or other procedures to repair the injury;
  • Drug therapy to relieve pain and other symptoms.

In some clinical cases, there is no way to treat the cause of muscle weakness, for example, we can cite long-term and profound neurological damage due to stroke or spinal cord injury. In such cases, supportive management is provided, which will help the patient adapt and cope with life changes more easily.
