What are mucus deposits?
The term “mucous deposits” is used by alternative medicine practitioners. According to them, due to an unhealthy diet, intestinal mucus accumulates in the large intestine. However, there is currently no scientific evidence or proof that mucus deposits actually form.
According to alternative medicine, with each unhealthy meal, mucus deposits thicken/harden; due to the deposits, the body has difficulty absorbing nutrients properly.
The intestine produces mucus to protect the gastrointestinal tract from the following pathologies:
• Harmful bacteria;
• Food-associated toxins;
• Microbial additives;
• Undigested food particles;
• Digestive enzymes and acid.
The American Cancer Society recommends several effective methods for maintaining a healthy colon.
To protect the colon, it is recommended to:
• Colorectal cancer screening in people over 45;
• Eat a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains;
• Eat less red and processed meat;
• Exercise regularly;
• Maintain a healthy weight and lose weight if you are overweight;
• Avoid tobacco and alcohol.
