How to prevent nail infections?

Prevention methods.

Nail infections are medically called paronychia. Bacteria enter the skin through cuts/injuries to the cuticle and nail folds.

In a large percentage of clinical cases, the infection is effectively treated with antibiotic therapy. Paronychia usually does not cause serious health problems. Sometimes the infection lasts much longer or recurs after the course of treatment is completed.

Methods for preventing nail infections are:

• Do not bite or chew your nails or the skin around the nails;
• Do not cut your nails too short;
• Be careful when handling nails, do not remove more than necessary;
• Wash your hands often with soap;
• Choose a mild soap for your hands - the detergent should not dry out and irritate your skin;
• If you have dry skin, moisturize your nail area;

If you know that you will have to work in an environment where you will be in contact with water and chemicals, be sure to use waterproof gloves.
