Gallstones are intermittent abdominal pain caused by a blockage in the bile duct. The discomfort is usually felt under the right rib cage or in the right arm.

Gallstone pain is of the following types:

  • Episodic;
  • Constant;
  • Acute.

Gallstones may be accompanied by the following symptoms:

  • Soft abdomen;

Many people complain of abdominal pain after eating, especially if the meal was fatty or a large portion was eaten. The episode of pain can last from 20 minutes to several hours. If the pain does not go away even after several hours, it is likely that the underlying cause is more serious.
