What is paronychia?
Paronychia (nail infection) is caused by bacteria. The bacteria enter the skin through a cuticle or eponychium. Paronychia usually does not cause serious health problems - in some clinical cases, the infection persists for a long time or recurs after treatment.
The most common causes of skin inflammation are trauma, irritation, or infection.
Paronychia can occur on both the toes and fingers.
In a large percentage of clinical cases, antibiotic therapy is prescribed for treatment, and sometimes drainage of the pus is required.
The risk of nail infection is high due to the following factors:
- Direct contact of the skin with irritants, chemicals;
- A bad habit of biting nails or nails;
- A history of skin conditions;
- Working with water.
The following symptoms are characteristic of a nail infection:
- Pain and swelling around the nail;
- The skin is red and warm;
- Pus under the skin.
