Sore Throat at Night

Sore Throat at Night

If your throat only hurts at night.

The cause could be something as simple as talking all day or a serious infection. If you have other symptoms, such as a fever or night sweats, your sore throat is likely due to an underlying condition.

The cause could be:

  • Allergies;
  • Postnasal drip;
  • Dry air in the room;
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease;
  • Muscle strain;
  • Epiglottitis;
  • A viral or bacterial infection of the throat.

If you have a sore throat that lasts for a long time, it is recommended that you see a doctor to determine the cause.

See a doctor immediately if you have any of the following symptoms:

  • Blood in your saliva or sputum;
  • Difficulty swallowing;
  • Swelling or pain that limits your ability to eat, drink, or sleep;
  • Sudden fever;
  • A lump in your throat;
  • A red rash;
  • Difficulty opening your mouth;
  • Difficulty moving your head;
  • Drooling;
  • Dizziness;
  • Difficulty breathing.
