What is collagen?

Collagen makes up 30% of the body's protein - it is essential for skin, muscle, bone and connective tissue. Collagen is found in organs, blood vessels and the lining of the intestines.

The function of collagen is:

  • Helps fibroblasts form in the middle layer of the skin, which ensures the production of new cells;
  • Replaces dead skin cells;
  • Provides a protective framework for organs;
  • Gives the skin elasticity and density;
  • Helps the body clot blood.

As we age, less collagen is produced in the body; this effect is especially noticeable after menopause. It is quite natural that everyone over 60 has a collagen deficiency.

The level of collagen in the body is significantly reduced by an unhealthy lifestyle, namely:

  • Tobacco;
  • Excessive sugar and refined carbohydrates in the diet;
  • Ultraviolet radiation.
