Is migraine hereditary?

Migraine - causes and contributing factors.

Migraine is a chronically recurring neurological disease in which the patient complains of pulsating, shooting, severe pain on one or both sides of the head.

The severe headache is accompanied by other disturbing symptoms (nausea, vomiting, increased sensitivity to sound or light). Sometimes a migraine attack is preceded by a warning sign, known as an aura.

Scientists do not know the exact cause of migraine, although studies show that genetics play a large role in the development of the disease.

Risk factors that contribute to symptoms include:

• Stress;
• Hormonal changes;
• Some medications (a kind of side effect);
• Changes in sleep patterns;
• Changes in weather;
• Excessive physical activity;
• Unhealthy addiction to caffeine and tobacco;
• Skipping breakfast, lunch or dinner for any reason;
• Being in an environment with bright lights, loud music or strong smells.

A person with migraines may be allergic to specific chemicals or ingredients, so it is important to control your diet to reduce sensitivity.

Do not eat:

• Aged cheese;
• Beverages containing alcohol;
• Chocolate;
• Processed or smoked products;
• Pickled products.
