What is lichenification?

Lichenification is a condition in which the skin acquires a leathery effect, its structure thickens. Basically, it is formed as a result of constant scratching, scratching, friction.

The following symptoms are characteristic:

  • A kind of spots on the skin that cause itching;
  • Thick, leathery skin;
  • Crusty skin;
  • Exfoliated skin;
  • The spots are raised and have a red or dark color.

It is necessary to treat, because lichenification is characterized by progression, therefore, if you do not start to manage the pathology in time, the condition of the skin will worsen.

Some conditions may become the reason for the formation of lichenification, these are pathologies:

  • Atopic dermatitis;
  • Contact dermatitis;
  • Eczema;
  • Psoriasis;
  • Skin dryness;
  • Insect bite;
  • Stress;
  • Anxiety disorder;
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder;
  • Skin trauma.

During lichenification, the patient feels discomfort and has a strong desire to itch, unfortunately, scratching aggravates the condition more.

As a rule, the condition is temporary - lichenification is quickly and effectively treated with a special topical ointment, but it is necessary to consult a doctor in time before the disease progresses deeply.

In order to prevent recurrence in the future, it is advisable to prescribe a course of treatment to eliminate the underlying cause.
