What is ascites?
Ascites means accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity.
In a large percentage of clinical cases, it is formed as a result of cirrhosis, liver disease. Be sure to contact your doctor if you have already been diagnosed with cirrhosis and are gaining weight quickly. The doctor will select a course of treatment (basically, a low-salt diet is effective).
Keep in mind that a history of a disease that causes cirrhosis also puts you at risk of developing ascites.
Notable diseases are:
- Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease;
- Hepatitis C;
- Hepatitis B;

- Swelling of the ankle;
- Shortness of breath;
- Bloating;
- Loss of appetite;
