Pericarditis - examples of complicated clinical cases and methods of prevention

How to avoid pericarditis?

Pericarditis is swelling and irritation of the pericardium (the tissue that surrounds the heart). The most common symptom of pathology is chest pain.

There is no specific way to prevent pericarditis, although certain methods can minimize the risk.

It is recommended to protect yourself from those infections that are considered to provoke the inflammatory process of the heart.

We recommend:

  • Avoid contact with people who have viral or flu-like symptoms;
  • Pay attention to personal hygiene, in particular, wash your hands often with soap and devote at least 20 seconds to this procedure;
  • Get vaccinated.

Remember, any unusual symptoms should be noticed - when the disease, including pericarditis, is diagnosed at an early stage, the rate of treatment effectiveness is much higher, and therefore, complications can be prevented in time.

Examples of complicated clinical cases of pericarditis are:

  • Accumulation of fluid around the heart (pericardial effusion in medical terms);
  • Thickening and scarring of the heart;
  • Cardiac tamponade.
