What is a papule (nodule)?
A papule is a bulging area of skin tissue up to 1 centimeter in size. It may have clear or unclear boundaries.
A papule can be of any shape, color, size - it is not a diagnosis or a disease.
In a large percentage of clinical cases, it is not serious and can be treated at home. If papules appear after taking a new medication, be sure to inform your doctor.
The cause may be:
- Contact dermatitis;
- Wart;
- Seborrheic keratosis;
- Actinic keratosis;
- Cherry angioma;
- Contagious molluscs;
- Keratosis pilaris;
- Eczema.
Other potential causes include:
- Side effect of medication;
- Lichen planus;
- Psoriasis;
- Acute herpes;
- Smallpox;
- Leprosy;
- Acrodermatitis;
- Insect bite.
