Complex regional pain syndrome

Complex regional pain syndrome

What is complex regional pain syndrome?

It is a form of chronic pain that is usually felt in the extremities. It is mainly formed due to trauma, surgery, stroke or heart attack. Since it is a rare disease, it is difficult to determine the exact cause.

Treatment is effective when diagnosed early. If treatment is started at an early stage, the chance of improvement and remission is much higher.

The following symptoms are characteristic of complex regional pain syndrome:

• Chronic burning or throbbing sensation in the limbs;
• Sensitivity to touch and cold;
• Swelling in the painful area;
• Change in skin temperature;
• Change in skin color;
• Change in skin texture;
• Changes in hair and nail growth;
• Inflammation and swelling of the joint;
• Muscle spasm, tremors and weakness;
• Impaired ability to move.

As we have already told you, the exact cause of the development of the disease is unknown, however, according to scientists, the contributing factor is damage to the peripheral and central nervous system.
