Chronological and biological age - why do some people look much younger?

What is chronological age and what does biological age mean?

It is quite possible that your biological and chronological age are not the same.

Chronological age determines how long you have lived, while biological age is calculated based on physiological age of cells and tissues. For example, the biological age of a practically healthy person is lower than the chronological age. However, if you are chronically ill and are not physically active, your biological age will be high.

You probably know a person (or people) who looks much younger or older than their age - in this case, the person's biological and chronological age are different.

How you age (wrinkles, gray hair, loose skin, and other changes you notice as you age) depends largely on genetics, but environmental factors are also important.

The following external factors affect aging:

  • Food rations;
  • Level of physical activity;
  • Tobacco;
  • Sleeping habit;
  • The environment where you live.

Scientists say that biological age (also known as physiological age) is affected by all these factors and the state of DNA (genetic material) is a reflection of these factors.

The most effective way to reduce biological age is to give up bad habits and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
