Causes.
With rib pain, you may complain of dull or sharp, piercing pain in the chest; You will feel that the discomfort comes from the rib.
This complaint appears for a number of reasons, and in particular, the cause may be trauma, inflammatory process, infection, cancer, pain coming from different organs (heart, lungs, spleen, liver) and others. Some patients complain of other symptoms along with rib pain.
The most common causes are:
- Trauma, injury;
- Fibromyalgia;
- Rheumatoid conditions;
- Intercostal neuralgia;
- Slipping rib syndrome.

Call 911 for the following symptoms:
- Feeling of pressure, squeezing in the chest area;
- Pain from the rib is transmitted to the shoulder, back, jaw;
- Accelerated heartbeat;
- Shortness of breath;
- Acute pain;
- Sudden sweating;
- Dizziness and a feeling of heart failure;
- Cough up blood (even in small amounts);
- Difficulty swallowing;
- Numbness or tingling sensation in the limbs;
- Confusion.
