What is fungal acne?
Fungal acne is a fungal infection of hair follicles, which is often confused with normal acne due to its symptomatic course.
Fungal acne causes tiny, red, itchy bumps on the skin. Keep in mind, unlike acne, a rash caused by a fungal infection is itchy. In case of fungal acne, the rash appears quickly - the pimples look like a single pile and are the same size. Each bump may have a red line or a kind of circle around it. However, some people suffer from both types of acne at the same time.
Antifungal medications are given to treat the infection.
No one is immune to fungal acne, but the diagnosis is especially common in teenagers and young adult men with oily skin.
